Xmipp in Virtual Machine
To easily start developing software with Xmipp we propose you to use it in a virtual machine. We have created a virtual Linux machine with
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, where we have installed
eclipse as development environment, with the basic tools and some customizations for Xmipp.
Installation
First of all, you need a virtualization software. We suggest
VirtualBox, which has been used to generate
XmippVM , but you can use any
other.
Once installed the software, download our
XmippUbuntu virtualization package. Now, import the virtual machine: in Virtual Box go to
File ->
Import Appliance, then choose
XmippUbuntu.ova and click
Next. Now you see the virtual machine parameters, which can be modified now or any time once imported. Finally, click
Finish.
First time run
By the first time, check the system starts correctly and you autologin as
xmippuser. If the system asks the root password for updates, this is
xmipp.
Now, launch Eclipse and, if the virtual machine has internet access, let update xmipp to the most recent development version. Do right click onto "xmipp" project in the
Project Explorer (on the left) and go to
Team ->
Update. If a password is required it is
xmipp.
For more information about compiling and other stuffs, check the section
EclipSe.
Enjoy Xmipp!!
